Breeding

In 1968 the first black Giant Schnauzers arrived to Kennel La-Riesen.

In the beginning we had 2 females from Norway and 1 male from Sweden.

Throughout the times we have imported 16 dogs, mainly from Germany.

Mating has been bought from the best German males.

We have breed 111 litter-puppies, from these 3 litters of P/S.

Throughout the years (1964-2005) it has summed up to 720 puppies in all.

The main purpose with La Riesen’s breeding, is as following:

¤ At breed a dog, who is as close to the standard as possible?

- Which means:

¤ The dog is sturdy in both build and to the weather and to illnesses.

¤ He is watchful, faithful, self-confident, good-natured and has a well-balanced temperament and great love for his family.

¤ His build is compact and of vigorous stature.

¤ He is persevering and quick and easily trained.

Particularly we put a great importance in the breed’s unique coat. A good Giant Schnauzer-coat must be trimmed at least twice a year, spring and fall. The correct coat makes life easier for the owner, since the owner have less work in grooming the dog and cleaning up the house.

The correct Giant Schnauzer coat has these coat-characteristics:

 ¤ Lacquer black

 ¤ Wire-haired (very little shed)

 ¤ Dismissive to dirt

 ¤ Allergy friendly

 ¤ Minimum coat care
