FACTS ON OUR BREEDING DOGS BEFORE YOU CHOOSE TO BUY GIANT SCHNAUZER

Our special club for Giant Schnauzer DSPK requires that the parent dogs must be HD-tested. Though we wish for several more relevant health demands for as long as the dogs are in the breeding.

T4 is taken as a blood sample that tells if the dog has problems with the thyroid gland (which means life long medication).

Eye examination is performed at a veterinarian who specializes in eye diseases in dogs. Contrast fluid is put into the eyes and the Vet checks if there is any hereditary eye disease (You cannot see this with your bare eyes. If the result is free once, you cannot assume that this is for the rest of the dog’s life. This can only be seen in an eye examination).

You could easily perform an X-ray on the elbows at the same time you get an X-ray for hips. (If the result is 1-2-3 on elbows it could turn in to early rheumatism in these joints)

You wish for HD/AA elbows 0 (HB/B approved).

T¤ n.r. = No remarks.

Mentally tests of the parent animals tell you, how the dogs react in different stressed situations.

Kennel LaRiesen’s fulfils all above mentioned health issues and mentally tests on our own breeding dogs ass well as the males, we use four our females. Our dogs are tested for as long as they are use in the breeding.

Leading veterinarians recommend that you once a year check the dogs active in the breeding for T4 + eye examination. The cost is not worth mentioning if you know the risk of harming future puppies.

It is not enough testing the breeding dogs one time and think everything is allright. With that attitude you will not get far (a sad attitude for those who doesn’t take these tests).

As breeders we can look our buyers in the eyes. We know 100 % what we give as breeding material. The Danish Kennel Club has educated people doing the mentally tests. Giant Schnauzer has a “wish-for profile” and Kennel LaRiesen is placed nicely within these guidelines. As you see, we have chosen to let other eyes judge our breeding dogs through a mentally test.

Now when you choose you next Riesen puppy, ask the breeder about above health issues. Ask if they continuous test their dogs. There is a reason why we have chosen to test our dogs; namely that these mentioned “defects” as a matter of fact IS among our breed. Therefore it is not enough having a gorgeous looking Giant Schnauzer, if the health issues are way down or hidden with a hereditary agenda.

Our advice to you is, don’t compromise with health. Maybe you don’t have the need for testing your future puppy, but that does not prevent you from checking if the parent dogs are healthy and mentally strong. True, you can test for anything, but we have chosen to sell healthy and fit puppies, who hopefully will live for many years bringing happiness to their new families.
